A Research Nurse (or Clinical Research Nurse) is a registered nurse who manages clinical trials, ensuring compliance with protocols, patient safety, and accurate data collection. They conduct patient assessments, administer study treatments, obtain informed consent, and liaise between participants and investigators to advance medical knowledge
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Study Management: Implementing research protocols, managing trial documentation, and ensuring adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
- Participant Care: Screening, recruiting, and consenting patients, while assessing their health throughout the trial, including monitoring for adverse events
- Data Collection & Management: Accurately collecting, recording, and maintaining research data, including medical history and test results, often via Electronic Case Report Forms (eCRF).
- Clinical Procedures: Administering investigational products (medications/vaccines) and conducting clinical measurements like vitals, ECGs, or blood sampling
- Collaboration: Working with multidisciplinary teams, Principal Investigators (PI), and sponsors to ensure study goals are met
Required Skills and Qualifications
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is often preferred
- Experience: Previous clinical experience is required, with research experience highly valued
