A Laboratory Specialist manages laboratory operations, conducts specialized scientific tests, maintains equipment, and ensures compliance with safety protocols. They prepare samples, analyze data, and often train staff or students, requiring technical expertise in laboratory methodologies. They are essential in clinical, academic, or research settings
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Operations: Perform complex, specialized tests and analyses on samples and specimens.
- Equipment Management: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, centrifuges).
- Safety & Compliance: Implement and enforce strict safety policies, Quality Control (QC), and Quality Assurance (QA) standards.
- Data Management: Record, analyze, and report data results, including maintaining detailed archives. Lab Support: Manage inventory, order reagents, and ensure laboratory safety and sanitation.
- Training & Assistance: Provide training, technical guidance, and support to staff or students.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: A BSc in Medical Diagnostics, Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent field is often required, or an Associate degree with significant experience.
- Experience: Registered by KMLTTB with Proven laboratory experience (2–6 years), Proven experience as an ISO 15189:2022 Internal Auditor, Proven experience as a SLIPTA Auditor, Proven experience as a SLMTA Mentor, Proven experience in specialized areas like microbiology or clinical chemistry.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of ISO15189:2022, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), GxP, and
relevant safety regulations
